Gear Lubricants

CHEVRON AQUAGEAR® EP ISO 220, 320, 460 are multipurpose gear lubricants. They are formulated with highly refined, high viscosity index paraffinic base oils and a new generation sulfurphosphorus additive system. Chevron Aquagear EP oils contain extreme pressure, antiwear and emulsibility additives; oxidation, rust, corrosion and foam inhibitors; a pour point depressant; and a metal deactivator to protect copper or copper alloys from corrosion. They are specifically designed to meet or exceed the performance requirements of Joy Technologies specifications for transmission oils. Chevron Aquagear EP oils high film strength and loadcarrying capacity. Gear teeth are protected from wear, all types of surface distress, and premature failure. They provide improved thermal and oxidation stability to prevent degradation under severe operating conditions and provide longer lubricant life. They are designed to form a stable emulsion with contaminating water. Chevron Aquagear EP oils are recommended for use in Joy Technologies transmissions or other similar applications where water emulsifying gear oils are required. Chevron Aquagear EP oils meet Joy specifications TO-MEP (ISO 220), TO-HEP (ISO 320) and TO-HD (ISO 460). Chevron Aquagear EP oils can be used in industrial applications where overloading, severe operating conditions, high lubricant operating temperatures, or other problems are encountered.

 

CHEVRON DELO® GEAR LUBRICANTS ESI® SAE 80W-90, 85W-140 are premium grade, multipurpose gear lubricants. They are formulated with ISO SYN® base stocks and compounded with a unique extreme pressure additive utilizing an inorganic borate compound. They also contain a patented, synergistic combination of additives that protect against wear, seizure, oxidation, corrosion, rust, and foam. Chevron Delo Gear Lubricants ESI are ideally suited for gear sets exposed to extremely high temperatures and loads. Tests have proven that Chevron Delo Gear Lubricants ESI provide a wear protection film 3 to 5 times thicker than the conventional sulfur-phosphorus antiwear film. The inorganic borate film is composed of compounds that do not react with metal. The film forms promptly to provide superior gear protection and improved thermal stability. By minimizing friction, cooler operating temperatures have been observed. These lubricants are excellent for all types of automotive and industrial bearings and gears, articularly those operating under severe temperature and load conditions. They provide excellent wear control even in the presence of small amounts of water. Their exceptional thermal and oxidation stability, and antiwear performance permit longer gear life and extended drain intervals. Chevron Delo Gear Lubricant ESI SAE 80W-90 was field tested in more than 100 on-highway, Class 8 trucks with drain intervals of 500,000 to 750,000 miles. The product showed excellent field results in axles manufactured by Dana, ArvinMeritor, and Mack. It is approved for the extended drain specifications of both ArvinMeritor and Mack. CHEVRON DELO® SYNTHETIC GEAR LUBRICANT SAE 75W-90 is a premium heavy duty, extreme pressure, multigrade automotive gear lubricant. It is manufactured from synthesized hydrocarbon base fluids which have excellent thermal and oxidation stability, a high viscosity index, and a low pour point. The low pour point of Chevron Delo Synthetic Gear Lubricant imparts excellent lubrication during startup at subzero temperatures, while the outstanding viscosity temperature characteristics provide excellent lubrication at high temperatures. Lower frictional losses in the lubricant film and reduced churning losses due to lower bulk oil viscosity lead to reduced operating temperatures when compared to conventional gear lubricants. Chevron Delo Synthetic Gear Lubricant is recommended as a rear axle and differential lubricant in over-the-road and off-road vehicles when operating under severe conditions and in extremely cold or hot environments. Chevron Delo Synthetic Gear Lubricant meets and exceeds the requirements of API Service Categories GL-4, GL-5 and MT-1. CHEVRON GEAR COMPOUNDS EP ISO 68, 100, 150, 220, 320, 460, 680, 1000, 1500, 2200 are multipurpose gear lubricants. They provide good thermal stability, extreme pressure protection, antiwear and demulsibility, oxidation, rust, corrosion control and foam inhibition. Chevron Gear Compounds EP used in misting systems provide excellent oxidation stability to prevent oil mist deposits. They will form a high volume of mist droplets for transmission to the point of application. Chevron Gear Compounds EP have minimal stray mist (fog). Chevron Gear Compounds EP are recommended for all industrial enclosed gearing and wherever an AGMA extreme pressure lubricant is specified. Chevron Gear Compounds EP, in the proper viscosity grade, are recommended for all mist oil application systems. The same products can also be used in general industrial plant lubrication where the performance properties of this type of lubricant are required. CHEVRON MEROPA® ISO 68, 100, 150, 220, 320, 460, 680, 1000, 1500 are high performance, multipurpose gear lubricants designed for industrial gear lubrication services where loads and shock loadings are high. When used in misting systems, Chevron Meropa provides excellent oxidation stability to prevent oil mist deposits. They will form a high volume of mist droplets for transmission to the point of application. EATURES Chevron Open Gear Grease is formulated with high viscosity mineral oils in a nonsoap-based thickener. This grease appears brownish-black and is extremely tacky. Chevron Open Gear Grease contains special functional fillers such as molybdenum disulfide and graphite, which impart a long-lasting film on working surfaces. It also contains tackiness additives, wetting agents and rust inhibitors to protect metal surfaces. The Chevron Open Gear Grease contains chlorinated solvents. Chevron Open Gear Grease has been formulated with a diluent that does not require a cancer warning label. Chevron Open Gear Grease is in every sense a true grease and not an asphalt-based open gear lubricant. This has a number of advantages. The lubricant can carry a more complete additive system including friction modifiers such as molybdenum disulfide and graphite, which apply a long lasting antiwear film on gear teeth.

CHEVRON OPEN GEAR LUBRICANTS 100 NC, 250 NC, 800 NC are black, viscous lubricants formulated with an asphaltic base and diluted with a nonchlorinated solvent for easy application by hand or through automatic lubrication systems. They provide a high film strength coating on gear teeth to minimize wear. Chevron Open Gear Lubricants are designed to provide tacky, tenacious lubricant films on open gears operating under severe shock load conditions. Chevron Open Gear Lubricants contain a nonchlorinated diluent that eases the application of these lubricants onto the gears. The diluent then evaporates, leaving a tacky lubricant film on the gear teeth. They can also be used to lubricate chains, sprockets, wire rope, and cables. When used as a cable coating, the diluent allows the lubricant to penetrate into the core, thus carrying the lubricant into the individual strands and minimizes wear as the cable is run through sheaves or onto a winch drum. Chevron Open Gear Lubricants are recommended for all types of open gears, wire ropes, and cables. They can be applied by brush, swab, spray gun, or by automatic lubrication systems. All grades provide lubrication for mining equipment including: • girth and pinion gears on rod and ball mills; • rack and pinion gears on shovel dipsticks; • and swing and pinion gears on top of the lower frame of shovels and draglines, which are sometimes served with an automatic lubrication system. Chevron Open Gear Lubricants meet Bucyrus-Erie and P&H requirements for electric shovels and draglines.

 

 

CHEVRON PINNACLE® WM ISO 320 Pinnacle WM’s polyalphaolefin (PAO) technology combined with advanced sulphur-phosphorus additive systems delivers powerful extreme pressure protection. This maximizes wear resistance, including micropitting, in heavily-loaded, high shock load situations, extending equipment performance and service life. Recommended for the lubrication of heavily loaded enclosed gear drives and speed reducers driven by wind turbines, fractional horsepower motors and large high horsepower units in heavy duty industrial applications. CHEVRON RPM® ARCTIC GEAR LUBRICANT is a multipurpose, heavy duty automotive gear lubricant designed to meet the severe demands of cold weather operations. It is formulated with ISO SYN® base stocks and compounded with extreme pressure, antiwear, corrosion inhibition, rust preventive, and foam suppressant additives, as well as a shear stable viscosity index improver. This additive package is a new generation sulfur-phosphorus system with improved thermal stability, gear spalling protection, and antiwear performance. Chevron RPM Arctic Gear Lubricant is designed to provide maximum wear protection for automotive gear sets operating in extremely cold conditions, where fluidity of the lubricant is critical to protect gears and bearings. Low viscosity hastens the release of entrained air in the lubricant at low temperatures, thereby providing a better oil film on moving parts. Chevron RPM Arctic Gear Lubricant is recommended for all automotive rear axle and manual transmission gears operating in severe arctic climates, or where the manufacturer recommends a viscosity range lighter than conventional SAE 80W 90 or SAE 85W-140 gear lubricants. CHEVRON RPM® GEAR OILS SAE 90, 140 are straight mineral gear oils. They are manufactured from specially treated high viscosity index paraffinic base stocks. They contain a metal deactivator to stop such metals as copper from acting as catalysts to promote oil oxidation. They also contain rust, corrosion, and foam inhibitors, plus a pour point depressant to assure fluidity at low temperatures. Chevron RPM Gear Oils provide long life for gears and bearings in gear cases where the OEM recommends the use of a straight mineral oil. High viscosity indexes and low pour points assure good film strength and gear wear protection at both high and low temperatures. Chevron RPM Gear Oils are recommended for any automotive or industrial equipment where the equipment suppliers recommend the use of a straight mineral oil in SAE viscosity grades 90 (ISO 220) or 140 (ISO 460). Chevron RPM Gear Oils are also suitable for lubrication of any equipment where copper or bronze is present and susceptible to attack by oils containing sulfurphosphorus compounds. CHEVRON RPM® UNIVERSAL GEAR LUBRICANTS SAE 80W-90, 85W-140 are multipurpose lubricants. They are made from paraffinic base stocks and contain a carefully balanced additive package to provide maximum gear protection and long lubricant life. The sulfur-phosphorus extreme pressure additives used in Chevron RPM Universal Gear Lubricants provide superior thermal and oxidation stability. In addition, this lubricant is fortified with rust and corrosion inhibitors, a foam inhibitor, and a pour point depressant. It also contains a friction modifier that allows its use as a top-off lubricant in gear cases with limited-slip or positrack differentials. The sulfur-phosphorus extreme pressure additives in Chevron RPM Universal Gear Lubricants reduce the spalling and wear of gears by creating a microthin sacrificial film on the surface of the gear teeth which is actually softer than the gears themselves. Frictional heat and pressures between tooth surfaces cause the sulfur-phosphorus to react with the surface of the gear teeth at the point of contact, thus creating the sacrificial film. The highly refined base stocks and various inhibitors in the additive package assure a well-balanced  lubricant and long gear and bearing life. Chevron RPM Universal Gear Lubricants are recommended for use in all spiral bevel and hypoid differentials, power dividers, and oil-lubricated steering axle wheel bearings. Their multiviscosity characteristics allow their use in equipment operating over a broad ambient temperature range. This means good cold flow properties and gear protection. CHEVRON SUPREME LS GEAR LUBRICANT SAE 80W-90 is a high quality multipurpose gear lubricant. It is formulated with friction modifiers so that it can be used for complete replacement or top-off in limited slip differentials without the need for a limited slip supplement. Chevron Supreme LS Gear Lubricant is formulated with a high performance sulfur-phosphorous extreme pressure additive, thermally stable hydrocracked (Group II) base stocks, and friction modifiers for limited slip performance. In addition, this lubricant is fortified with rust and corrosion inhibitors, a foam inhibitor, and a pour point depressant. The extreme pressure additives in Chevron Supreme LS Gear Lubricant reduce the spalling and wear of gears by creating a microthin sacrificial film on the surface of the gear teeth which is actually softer than the gears themselves. Frictional heat and pressures between tooth surfaces cause the sulfur-phosphorous to react with the surface of the gear teeth at the point of contact, thus creating the sacrificial film. The limited slip additive was carefully selected to provide the desired frictional properties in limited slip differentials with no degradation of performance in conventional applications. The outstanding thermal durability minimizes oxidative sludge and varnish formation for longer gear, bearing and seal life. Chevron Supreme LS Gear Lubricant provides excellent performance in conventional applications, including: • All conventional differentials calling for this viscosity grade in an API GL-5 gear lubricant • Complete fill or top-off of all limited slip differentials • Differentials calling for API GL-5 gear lubricants plus supplemental limited slip additive • Manual transmissions/transaxles where gear lubricants are recommended • Nonsynchronized manual transmissions used in buses and heavy duty trucks • Four-wheel drive transfer cases • Applications where a “multipurpose” gear lubricant or an API Service Classification GL-5 is required Chevron Supreme LS Gear Lubricant meets or exceeds the performance requirements of API Service Categories MT-1 and GL-5. Note: Chevron Supreme LS Gear Lubricant is designed for full refill of all limited slip differentials. However, there may be instances when axle chatter occurs. If so, it is acceptable to add at least 4 ounces of aftermarket limited slip top treat additive.

 

 

CHEVRON TEGRA® SYNTHETIC GEAR LUBRICANTS (ISO) ISO 150, 220, 320, 460, 680 are superior quality industrial EP gear lubricants. The most advanced formulation has been selected to provide superior load carrying and antiwear properties; protection against rust, corrosion, foaming, and oxidation; and excellent demulsibility. This results in outstanding performance in most types of industrial gearboxes, exemplified by the FZG pass stage results of >12. These products possess very high shear stability even under heavily loaded, high speed conditions in industrial gears. The low pour point and very good low temperature fluidity of Chevron Tegra Synthetic Gear Lubricants impart improved lubrication during startup at sub-zero temperatures, while their superior viscosity temperature characteristics provide dependable lubrication at high temperatures. A unique property of the synthetic base oil is a low traction coefficient, resulting in improved gear efficiency, energy savings, less friction, less wear, and lower operating temperatures compared to conventional mineral oil products. Due to the very high viscosity index, these products provide a much higher oil viscosity at operating temperature than a mineral oil product of the same ISO grade. This results in increased oil film thickness and better antiwear protection for both bearings and gears. Drain intervals can be extended longer than conventional mineral oil products. That means fewer oil changes, reduced maintenance costs, and less used oil disposal. Chevron Tegra Synthetic Gear Lubricants are recommended for all types of enclosed industrial gearboxes, especially those running continuously at temperatures up to 107°C(225°F) or exposed to very cold temperatures as low as -46°C(-50°F), or under severe service conditions, such as heavy loads or low speeds. These products also provide excellent protection for bearings operating under similar conditions.
